needs more connectors 2010-06-08 Like some of the other reviewers, I bought this item (well, 2 to be precise) to make a run for my guinea pig. At 2 squares by 4 it's the perfect size, and has cheered my guinea pig up since the loss of his brother recently. In fact, I would say that since using this makeshift run he's been happier than I've ever seen him. My only complaint is that there aren't enough connectors and no details for buying more.
Not just for storage!!! 2010-06-04 I didn't buy this for storage. I wanted this to build my own C and C cage for some guinea pigs. It's perfect. We have put the cage together in the way we want and there is loads of room for the cavy's to run around in and it's very sturdy. The only criticism is that it could have come with a couple extra connectors. Outstanding value!
Great for guinea pigs and other small pets 2010-05-25 These cubes are the best building material for guinea pig pens, or condos for rabbits, ferrets, etc. They are extremely versatile in terms of the shapes they can be made into, and as easy as Lego bricks to build with. There are lots of tutorials available online for building fun things with them: google "rabbit condo". Each square is 13.5" high; each hole is 1.5" wide. This makes them too high for an adult guinea pig to jump over and the holes too small for any but a baby guinea pig to stick its head through. Rabbits can jump over them. They can be stepped over easily by people. They are very strong, waterproof, and resistant to gnawing. Unlike one other reviewer, I've found the connectors to be tough and durable. One pack will make a pen large enough for about four guinea pigs, provided they get on well together. My only complaint is that, unless you actually are making shelves, there are not enough connectors. One can use cable ties, but the connectors are more convenient and adjustable. I feel sure most customers buy these grids to make pet pens, and I hope the manufacturers will cotton onto this soon and supply extra connectors.
Happy Guinea Pigs! 2010-05-14 After allowing my new 15 week old Guinea Pigs to have free range time in a part of my kitchen, it was time to give them a space of their own. I have read about cubes and coroplast/correx housing systems for cavies on the internet and I thought that they looked ideal. The cube mesh and grid storage system is brilliant and a genius way of building a home for pets. They lock together with grey pegs, allowing many ways of configuration. I have just put an 'L' shaped home together this evening. It consists of 4 panels on one edge. 2 panels at the end and 3 panels on the opposite side. The 'L' shaped part has 2 bedrooms that are separate as my cavies fight a bit for their own room. These bedrooms have a panel above both of them to give more privacy. The grids are big enough so that the animals don't get out, but are easy enough to reach over to pick them up too. The water bottle is attached to one grid with a wire. I know that they are safe enough to leave them, without them escaping or getting trapped or hurt. They are very happy Guinea Pigs, pop corning and running about. I get my kitchen back.....it's all good : ) I am so happy with my purchase, I must recommend this to everybody. The service was quick, the product is excellent and the price is just right too.
Made guinea pig runs with it 2010-01-06 These are great for making little playpens for pets to play in. The only problem I've had is with the connectors. They break easily, but overall well worth getting - you can use cable ties or the like to keep the sections together instead, or as well)
